How to use Malta Pass?

Let’s say that Malta Pass is not activated as soon as you get your card. If you use your card at the first museum you enter or on your first trip, you will have activated it. If you do not use your card, it will remain valid for 12 months. From the first point you use your card, your 24, 48 or 72-hour right starts.

Urban transportation with Malta Pass: Malta Pass is not valid for public transportation. You can buy tickets from bus drivers. And these tickets are for single use only.

If you are going on vacation for a few days and want to use public transportation frequently, there are more affordable Malta transportation cards for 7 days, 12 days, etc. You can get the details from the tourist information centers or you can get them from this address.

Malta Pass is also valid for City Sightseeing Hop on Hop Off buses. It is really fun to see the city in open top buses. These buses have three different routes in Malta.

  • The northern route called the green road starts from Bugibba, passes through St. Julians and ends at Valletta Waterfront.
  • The red route is the southern route of Malta. It starts from Valletta Waterfront and continues to Tarxien, Marsaxiokk, Blue Grotto, Hagar Qim Temples.
  • The blue route starts from Valletta Waterfront and goes to San Anton Palace, Ta’Qali, Malta Aviation Museum, Mdina, Rabat, Mosta Dome.

You can use your City Sightseeing allowance either in Malta or on Gozo Island. It is not possible to use it in both and you can only use it for one day.

How much does a Malta Pass cost?

Tourists have three different Malta Pass card options. The 1-day Malta Pass is valid for 24 hours. The 2-day Malta Pass is valid for 48 hours.

Likewise, the 3-day Malta Pass is valid for 72 hours. For example, if you start using your 1-day Malta Pass in the afternoon, it will expire the following day in the afternoon.
