Renting a Car in USA: The Ultimate Guide
Renting a car is almost a necessity when traveling to America. Because, if you are going to America for sightseeing, public transportation to the places you will visit outside the center is either non-existent or very rare. Because America is a country that allows you to buy cheap cars thanks to affordable gasoline/fuel prices and low tax rates, which has increased individual transportation. Therefore, everyone has their own car. I don’t mean every family, every individual in a family has a car. Most of the time you will see two cars in front of the houses, sometimes three.

Rental car online booking
If you’re looking to rent a car in the USA, there are a few things you need to know. The process is different than it is in other countries, so it’s important to be prepared. Here’s a quick guide to renting a car in the USA:
- Determine what type of car you need. There are many different types of rental cars available, from economy to luxury. Consider your needs and budget when making your decision.
- Compare prices from different companies. Once you know what type of car you need, start comparing prices from different rental companies. Be sure to read the fine print so you understand all the terms and conditions.
- Once you have decided on your car and have found a car that meets your requirements, make your reservation.
- Follow the pickup instructions. When you arrive at the rental location, follow the instructions for picking up your car. You will usually need to present your driver’s license and credit card.
Most of the time we use rentalcars.com to rent a car in America. From this site, you can also see the companies at the airport where you land. You also have a lot of choice when it comes to renting a car in the USA and you won’t see the basic cars we have. Since America is a country that loves its comfort, all the cars are automatic transmission and you can even pay a little more and get a chance to ride in luxury cars that are normally very expensive.
When I rented the car, the Rental Cars website had already included Damage Liability Assurance, Third Party Liability, Theft Protection, Supplementary Liability Insurance, Protection from Uninsured Vehicles, Internal Security Fee, Local Taxes, Special Point Fee, some of which I don’t know what they are. You may have to pay extra for vehicles with unlimited kilometers. When we bought the car, we paid extra for tires and glass extras.
Required documents for renting a car
To rent a car in the USA, you will need to have a valid driver’s license and credit card. You may also need to present your passport if you are not a US citizen. Some rental companies may require you to purchase insurance, so be sure to ask about this before you book your rental.
When we rented a car in Atlanta, unlike the system in Europe, we chose our own car for the group we belonged to. The keys are on the cars. You can pick the one you like and they ask you to check around beforehand. After buying the car, we gave our driver’s license and the documents given to us to the officer at the exit point to get them approved. If the car is broken or dislocated, you indicate that, and then the roads are yours.
How to pick up a rental car?
Assuming you have already chosen a rental car company and made a reservation, you will need to do the following in order to pick up your car:
- Present a valid drivers license from your country of residence
- Present a valid credit card in your name
- Be at least 21 years old (age may vary by state)
Once you have presented these items, the rental car company will give you the keys to your vehicle and you will be on your way!
You may also encounter various extras that are not related to whether you are fully insured or not. You may be offered extras like child car seats, navigation devices. We had an extra for flat tires and broken windows. We didn’t get a flat tire or a broken windshield. But traveling 3000 km in 10 days increases the possibility of these things happening. Navigation is also very important, if you don’t have an internet line, make sure you have navigation. It is hard to get anywhere in America without a map in your hand. On the roads, there is no possibility of asking someone. On the highways, this possibility is zero, and on the side roads, if you see someone, you ask.
Returning your rental car
It’s important to remember that you’re responsible for returning the car in the same condition as when you rented it. That means no new dents, scratches, or other damage. If you do have any damage, be sure to document it and notify the rental company so you’re not charged for it when you return the car.
If there is a possibility of returning the car after office hours, discuss this with the company in advance. You may need to leave the keys in a safe place specified by the rental company.
When renting a car in America, you have the option of empty tank or full tank. Bringing your car with a full tank is much more advantageous than bringing an empty tank. You can fill the tank cheaper at a remote place at the airport, and you can refill the empty tank near the airport during this time. If you do not return with a full tank, you may encounter unexpected charges on your credit card.
