If you want to enter all the museums in Vienna, the heart of art, for free and benefit from free transportation, you should definitely get the Vienna Pass city card. This card offers easy and fast access to many museums among the places to visit in Vienna. Let’s see what Vienna Pass is and what it does.
Is it advantageous to get a Vienna Pass?
The entrance fee to museums in Vienna varies between 10€ – 15€. If you are a museum enthusiast like us, it makes sense to buy a Vienna Pass. The biggest advantage of the pass is that it allows free entry to almost all museums. The second biggest advantage is that you do not have to wait in line at these museums and you can benefit from fast track access. Fast track is very useful in crowded museums and you don’t waste your already limited time.

Let’s talk about price information for museum and palace junkies. Normally the entrance fee for Schönbrunn Palace is €17.50 and Schönbrunn Zoo is €18.50. The Leopold Museum, where the works of Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt are exhibited, costs 13€. Vienna Madame Tussauds Museum is 23€. Neue Burg costs 15€, Vienna Natural History Museum 10€, Sigmund Freud Museum 10€, Mozart House 11€. With prices like these, it is of course necessary to buy a city card when we think in a result-oriented way. In addition to all these, you can also benefit from the Hop On Hop Off tour buses worth 25€ for free.
How much does the Vienna Pass cost?
We cannot say that Vienna Pass prices are very cheap. The 1-day Vienna Pass costs 59€, the 2-day pass we preferred costs 87€, the 3-day pass costs 109€ and the 6-day pass costs 136€. When you buy it, you get a Hop on Hop Off tour map, a Vienna sightseeing map and a very useful guide booklet.

The Vienna Pass should not be confused with the Vienna City Card. Vienna City Card is a card that provides discounts for museums in the city. You get a discount of 2€, 3€, sometimes 4€ on adult prices. The prices are much cheaper than Vienna Pass. You should decide which one you should buy depending on the place you are going and the plan you have. There are three types of Vienna Card: 24h, 48h and 72h. But these also have two different card options. Both cards get the discounts, but one has the Public Transport option and the other has the 24h Hop On Hop Off option.

Transportation in the city with Vienna Pass: Getting a Vienna Pass does not mean that transportation is free. You need to pay an extra fee called TravelCard for transportation.
24 hours of unlimited transportation
48 hours of unlimited transportation
72 hours of unlimited transportation
24h 7,60€
48h 13,30€
72h 16,50€
With these cards you can use trams, buses and subways at no extra cost. The imperial palace and its surroundings can be done on foot, but for more distant places like Schönbrunn and Belvedere Palace, walking is a waste of time with limited time.
Where to buy Vienna Pass?
We bought our Vienna Pass city card online, because online purchases are a few euros cheaper. Of course, you don’t get it after you buy it online, there is a place where you can pick it up at the airport after you land in Vienna. You can also pick up your card from the customer service in the city center near the opera house.
The card comes with a map of the Hop on Hop off bus tour routes. On this map, you can see the bus times and which touristic spots the bus passes through on a nice map. In addition to this map, you are given a separate booklet where you can see the Vienna Pass discounts and the Vienna Pass booklet, which is the main booklet. In the main booklet, all the museums where the Vienna Pass is valid, opening hours, information about the museum and transportation routes by both city buses and Hop on Hop off buses are detailed.
